Bound For Abilene

Millions of longhorns were driven to railheads in Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming during the time of historic cattle drives in the1800’s.  Cowhands who rode heard on the longhorns were returning from the Civil War in need of work, settlers who lost homesteads in the war, and freed slaves, who all became part of what developed into the legendary American Cowboy.  For months they rode across hot deserts, endless grasslands, swift rivers and deadly Indian Territory, to the railhead, to hopefully earn $100.00 while fulfilling the hunger for beef in the East. This lone longhorn is the quintessential image of innumerable men and longhorns, Bound for Abilene.
