Bill has helped on many spring roundups at local ranches that are small outfits. These ranches do not have a crew of cowboys to gather in the herd, so often the owner has dogs that are bred and trained to round up the cattle. These dogs are not pets only, but very valuable partners in the running of that ranch. Also, this particular cowboss likes to use mules in certain rough and rugged places on his place because they are more sure-footed than a horse, so less likely to trip up on rocky ledges or trails.
