AMBUSHED

During the days of opening the western frontier of the United States, the US Army built forts that would keep the new settlers safe & have protection. Because they were new to many parts of the country they hired former buffalo hunters and trappers as scouts. These hardy frontier men knew the ways of the Native tribes, trails to local watering holes and safe passages over rugged terrain. The scout depicted here, had been looking for a watering hole, but instead found himself “ambushed” by a small band of warriors, and in that dangerous process of getting away back to the fort, is taking a souvenir with him!
