Sizin’ Up The Shot

Stories of the characters who lived, worked and “won” the West are exciting, varied, wild, bigger than life and often more legend than truth. The historic firearms these characters used to “win” the West are valued greatly today by those who collect the originals and buy replicas.  One of those legendary stories of a man and his Sharps buffalo gun is depicted in this bronze sculpture, with the twist of taking place “DownUnder”.      Mathew Quigley sails across the ocean to answer an ad from a station in the Outback of Australia, for the best marksman in America. To prove his claim, Quigley has a rider take a bucket up to the top of a far-away hill. Then he pulls the big rifle from its leather cover, throws the cover over his shoulder, walks a few paces, rubs his chin in thought – as he sizes up the wind and elevation, and takes the now famous bullseye bucket shot!
