Ranches in the West use many breeds of cow dogs to work the herd during roundup and gathering times. These well trained animals are valuable and greatly appreciated by the cowboys and ranchers as they share the work of keeping the herd together while leading the cattle from one pasture to another as the seasons change or when drought causes a need for different grazing range. Bill often rides for his ranching friends who run cattle in the high Arizona deserts during roundup. When one of these working dogs gets tired, overheated or sore feet it is often given a lift by one of the cowboys. In this sculpture Bill is telling this story of how this pup is happy, relaxing and surely aware, Every Dog Has His Day.
