Large ranches usually are divided into several “cow-camps”, with each having a permanent cowboy living there year around. These ranches usually consist of many different terrains; high deserts, rolling hills, grassland or rocky, deep canyons.  It is his job to make sure the cattle in his “camp” are in good shape, must check their water tanks, fences and see that plenty of feed is available.   When the ranch is in canyon country, a cowboy must be ridin’ the rims, so he’s able to look down into the hide-out spots.
